Floor-aware maps contain indoor GIS data that is organized into floor-aware layers, with features linked together in a floor plan hierarchy. They allow you to visualize and analyze indoor spatial data for various purposes. For example, you can use a floor-aware map to visualize space use in a large office building to determine where changes to office assignments would improve team proximity, maintain social distancing requirements, and conserve resources.
You can create floor-aware maps in ArcGIS Pro and view them in supported apps such as Map Viewer (formerly a separate beta installation but now included with the portal automatically).
A floor-aware map contains at least two floor-aware feature layers: one representing facilities (such as office buildings or medical facilities) and one representing levels, or floors, in a facility. Floor-aware maps can also include additional layers, such as a sites layer representing collections of facilities (for example, a college campus) and a units layer representing features such as rooms and hallways.
Organizations licensed with an ArcGIS Indoors Maps extension can configure floor-aware maps in Map Viewer. Once configured, the maps can be viewed by anyone. When you open a floor-aware map in Map Viewer, a floor filtering tool is available at the bottom of the map.
Follow these steps to explore floor-aware maps:
- In Map Viewer, open the floor-aware map.
- Click Browse at the bottom of the map and do any of the following:
- In the floor filtering window, browse to or search for a site or facility on the map. Click a site or facility in the list to select and zoom to it on the map.
- If a facility has multiple levels, choose a level to display the floor plan.
- Click a facility or site on the map to display a pop-up, and click the forward and back arrows to scroll through information for each feature in the facility or site.
- Optionally, click Layers on the Contents (dark) toolbar and modify the properties of the floor-aware layers such as applying a different style and configuring pop-ups.
